Dull skin is a bummer. So is lackluster locks. Similar to your complexion, your hair is prone to experience drab phases every now and again (it happens to the best of us). With the right routine, you can quickly turn your strands from blah to beautiful, and we’re here to offer up five clean ways to keep your mane in prime and polished shape.
Try using apple cider vinegar rinse.
Apple cider vinegar contains amino acids, antioxidants, and antibiotic properties that can help restore your hair. Many mainstream shampoos contain sulfates and other chemicals that strip your hair of natural oils. Apple cider vinegar rinse will balance the scalp’s natural oils and pH levels, which promotes hair growth and shine.
Treat your hair with an avocado mask.
Kourt’s hair stylist, Andrew Fitzsimons, created this DIY mask that is amazing for damaged or color-treated hair. The recipe contains honey, olive oil (which protects hair from curling irons and blow dryers), avocados (which hydrates hair with vitamin E and antioxidants), and lemon juice (which is naturally antibacterial). Towel dry hair immediately after showering.
Leaving your hair dripping wet can make the strands vulnerable to breakage, which then leads to frizz. Of course, a regular towel works fine, but there are also special super-absorbent, water-wicking towels like the ones from Aquis that are designed to quickly and gently dry your hair without any of the damage of a normal towel.
Switch to a clean beauty routine.
The EWG app is a great resource to find out if your favorite products are actually non-toxic. Hair products can be especially harsh, so look for companies that promote 6-Free haircare (which means there are no sulfates, silicones, phthalates, parabens, DEA, or artificial dyes). This leave-in conditioning spray uses rosehip, argan, and coconut oils to create shine.
Your diet can have a massive impact on the look and feel of your hair. Adding supplements is always a great way to make sure you’re getting enough vitamins and minerals, which are important for healthy, silky strands. Kourt likes to add collagen to her morning smoothie to strengthen her hair and nails.
