With the flip of the remote, our mood can quickly change from upbeat to discouraged (given all that’s going on in the world right now). While we can’t change what’s out of our control or predict the unknown, we can consciously guard our mindset by protecting our energy. Below we’re sharing 11 ways to stay centered and care for our mental well-being.
-Start and end your day by not looking at your phone so that other people’s energy doesn’t affect the way you begin (and finish) your day.
-Take it one step further and turn your phone on airplane mode in the morning and at night.
-Do a weekly or monthly sweep of the accounts that you follow on social media. Don’t be afraid to unfollow accounts that put you in a bad mood or are constantly affecting your mood in a negative way.
–Sage your home at the beginning of every month.
-Declutter your living space and donate anything that doesn’t bring you happiness or you no longer need.
-Keep your friend group tight. We’re all adults, and if someone’s attitude or outlook is negatively impacting you, consider distancing yourself from that person. Friendly reminder: it’s OK to keep your circle close-knit.
-Practice breathwork for situations that are triggering to you.
-Keep a folder of inspiring quotes or mantras on your phone that are uplifting and can boost your mood when you’re feeling down.
-Use apps like Happy Not Perfect and Insight Timer as self-guided meditation tools. On Insight Timer, you can even do a body scan to show your sleep patterns along with other personalized data provided by the service.
-Set boundaries with coworkers and family members.
-Be greedy with your time. There’s only so much we can accomplish during the day, so be picky with how you spend your free hours.
